West Sea Viana near 100% occupancy in 2025
The strategically located West Sea Viana shipyard, in northern Portugal, reports several repair and drydocking projects completed thus far this year: on Rohde Neilsen hopper dredger Magni R., US Air Force prepositioning vessel Capt. David I Lyon, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement LPG tankers Thekla Schulte and Theresa Schulte, and Algoma Tankers chemical tankers Algoscotia and Algoterra.
The shipyard, which celebrates its ten-year anniversary this year, reports a dock occupancy rate of “almost 100%” throughout 2025.
The yard is currently undertaking work on OSV Artabro, installing a new ballast water management system (BWMS) as well as a new foundation crane, and overhauling the A-frame hydraulic cylinders.
Other vessels currently in the yard include Bernhard Schulte LPG tanker Clamor Schulte, and general cargo vessel Furnas, owned by Mutualista Açoreana; Ro-Ro Hedy Lamarr, which is having two scrubber systems installed; as well as Portuguese museum ship and former hospital ship Gil Eannes.
More vessels are set to dock throughout December and early 2025, including a number of Viking Cruises river cruising vessels, and Steermar Lda-managed Ro-Pax Lobo Marinho and general cargo vessel Funchalense 5.
“Perspectives for 2025 are optimistic,” the shipyard said in a statement.
