Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a ten-year lifecycle agreement with Singapore-based MOL Global Ship Management, fully owned by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), covering twelve new LNG carriers delivered during 2024 and 2025. The agreement, partially booked in the first half of 2025 and for three vessels in Q3 2025, is designed to reduce engine downtime and provide flexible maintenance scheduling across the fleet.
Each vessel operates with two 6-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines, four Wärtsilä gas valve units, and catalysers to lower emissions. The agreement integrates Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning and Expert Insight predictive maintenance system, enabling 24/7 remote monitoring, extended service intervals, and proactive issue resolution before operations are affected.
Namit Mathur, director of MOL Global Ship Management, said: “Wärtsilä’s Lifecycle Agreement will optimise our vessel operations and maintenance, ensuring that we can maximise uptime and performance. In addition, this agreement will play a crucial role in supporting the sustainable operations of our fleet by helping us reduce emissions and operate more efficiently.”
Henrik Wilhelms, director, Agreement Sales at Wärtsilä Marine, added: “Lifecycle agreements provide shipowners, like MOL, with operational reliability, cost predictability, and optimised maintenance. These benefits support consistently high service standards and enable fulfilment of customer commitments, while also contributing to reduced operational emissions in line with the industry’s decarbonisation goals.” The programme highlights Wärtsilä’s capacity to support complex, environmentally focused LNG operations across global shipping networks.
