The Finland-flagged Viking Grace has docked at BLRT Grupp’s Turku Repair Yard in Naantali for scheduled maintenance, where she will remain until the end of January as the yard carries out routine service and inspection work.
Delivered in early 2013 from the then STX Europe Turku Shipyard, now Meyer Turku, the LNG-powered cruise ferry operates for Viking Line on Baltic routes. The vessel marked a milestone for the Finnish operator as the first large passenger ship in the region designed to run primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG), setting a benchmark for lower emissions and energy efficiency at the time of entry into service.
The Turku Repair Yard, founded in 1989, operates one of the largest drydocks in northern Europe and focuses on complex shiprepair, conversions and heavy maintenance. In addition to annual service programmes, the facility undertakes casualty repairs and refits for a wide range of commercial vessels. The yard works closely with Port of Naantali Ltd, with two of the port’s quays located within the repair yard area at Luonnonmaa, and the partners also cooperate on safety and environmental management.
The current docking will cover inspections, machinery servicing and other class-related tasks needed to keep Viking Grace on schedule for the year ahead.
