Vehicle carrier Thames Highway in repeat visit to Remontowa

Thames Highway is a regular visitor to the Polish yard (Source: Remontowa)

The vehicle carrier Thames Highway has completed a repair project at Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Gdańsk, Poland, for Stargate Shipmanagement. The work, part of scheduled maintenance, included hull treatment, mechanical servicing, and general upkeep to prepare the vessel for continued operation in European short-sea trades.

Thames Highway is one of several small car carriers, each 99.9m in length and 19.76m in breadth, with a capacity of around 850 vehicles. The vessels are specially designed for small ports, with shallow draft, two main engines, twin variable pitch propellers, dual Becker rudders, and powerful bow thrusters for precise manoeuvering. Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A construction enables year-round Baltic operation.

Ships owned by Japanese operators Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Nissen Kaiun and Kowa Marine Service, as well as car carriers bearing the KESS logo, are frequent visitors to Remontowa. In 2017, Seine Highway and Thames Highway were overhauled at the yard, while Isar Highway and Ems Highway were serviced there in 2022.

Remontowa, the largest ship repair facility in Poland, provides drydocking, steelwork, hull treatment, and machinery overhauls for commercial and offshore vessels. Following completion of repairs, Thames Highway has returned to service.
