Vard will invest in a new floating dock at its Vard Langsten shipyard in Norway as the company seeks to expand capacity for newbuild, conversion and shiprepair projects while strengthening support for defence contracts.
The floating dock will be constructed at Vard Shipyards Romania in Tulcea, with work scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and completion targeted for the third quarter of 2027. The dock will have a maximum lifting capacity of 16,000 tonnes, a length of 151m and an internal width of 35m.
“This investment strengthens our execution capability and competitiveness by increasing flexibility and capacity at Vard Langsten,” said Vard CEO Cathrine Marti. “It enhances our ability to plan and deliver reliably across newbuilds, conversions, and service projects, while keeping more critical operations within Vard’s integrated value chain.”
Odd Henrik Iversen, senior vice president and yard director at Vard Langsten, said: “The new dock enables us to handle more project types and run more projects in parallel. We will also improve logistics between quay, halls and dock, which simplifies execution and increases efficiency.”
Vard said the investment would also support its long-term ambition to provide lifecycle support for vessels, including upgrades, conversions and life-extension work.
