Vard Electro has signed a contract with German shipyard Lloyd Werft to deliver a complete automation and power management package for a platform supply vessel undergoing conversion into a research ship. The deal includes installation of Vard’s SeaQ Integrated Automation System and SeaQ Power Management System, replacing all existing onboard automation.
The upgrade will involve fitting new control cabinets and modern power management units, and integrating the systems with existing shipboard equipment to create a unified platform supporting safe operation and efficient energy use. Vard said the SeaQ Power Management System will optimise energy efficiency, improve load control and enhance operational reliability for the vessel’s new role.
“We are proud to support Lloyd Werft in this high-end conversion project and look forward to contributing to a successful transformation of the vessel,” said Francisco Lima, vice-president for Retrofit and Service at Vard Electro.
The project will be carried out at Lloyd Werft’s Bremerhaven yard, which specialises in complex refit and conversion work, and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2026. Vard Electro, part of the Fincantieri-owned Vard Group, said the contract underscores its position as a turnkey systems integrator for advanced vessel retrofits.
