Value Maritime has secured a contract to retrofit two Neptune Lines pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) with scrubber systems designed to support future onboard carbon capture integration.
The Dutch emissions technology specialist will install two 15-MW Filtree systems on the Greek-flagged Neptune Tharros and Neptune Ethos. The retrofits are scheduled to take place in the Mediterranean during summer 2026.
According to Value Maritime, the project marks the first deployment of its technology in the PCTC sector. The Filtree systems are designed to reduce sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions while providing a pathway for the future installation of carbon capture equipment without major additional modifications.
The company said the systems offer shipowners a means of addressing current emissions requirements while preparing vessels for more stringent environmental regulations in the future.
“Neptune Lines is committed to continuously improving the environmental performance of our fleet,” said George Kriezis, technical director at Neptune Lines. “Our goal is the delivery of all cargo in the most cost and carbon-efficient way. Partnering with Value Maritime allows us to implement a practical and future-ready solution that reduces emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.”
The agreement reflects growing interest in retrofit technologies that can support both compliance with existing emissions rules and longer-term decarbonisation strategies. Carbon capture-ready systems are increasingly being considered by shipowners seeking flexibility as regulatory requirements evolve and onboard carbon capture technologies move closer to commercial adoption.
