BLRT Repair Yards has begun a major upgrade project on the Sea-Cargo AS vessel Trans Sol, following the recent completion of similar work on its sister ship Trans Hav.

The extensive scope of the project includes the covering of the weather deck, funnel modifications, installation of a battery housing, and an overhaul of the main engines. Electrical work, including cabling for the battery system, is already in progress.

Upcoming phases will include hull cleaning, the application of new antifouling paint, refurbishment of thrusters and rudder, and the installation of a new propeller. The anchor chains will undergo inspection with worn links replaced, while the cargo hold ramp is to receive a full overhaul. The vessel will also be repainted in Sea-Cargo’s distinctive blue livery.

The Norway-based company operates a fleet of multipurpose RoRo vessels serving the North Sea and Baltic trades. It has invested in a series of retrofits across its fleet to improve efficiency and extend operational life. Managers hope that the retrofit of solar and wind power aboard each vessel will halve fuel consumption and associated CO2 emissions.
