Trans Hav conversion a step closer to completion at BLRT

Estonia’s BLRT has completed many of the steps required to transform Trans Hav, one of two ice-class RoRo sister vessels receiving a series of upgrades to turn them into wind-solar-battery hybrids.

The yard reports that installation of the new solar weather deck is “well underway”, with some 1,600m2 of solar panels eventually set to be installed. Meanwhile, the deck foundations for the vessel’s new rotor sails have been retrofitted, as well as new and more efficient Kongsberg propeller blades optimised for a 14-knot service speed.

Additional equipment to be installed includes the Norsepower rotor sails, NOx scrubbers and batteries, with the aim of reducing the vessel’s operational carbon dioxide emissions by around 50%.

Owner Sea-Cargo AS purchased Trans Hav, and sister vessel Trans Sol, recently. The vessels were formerly known as Misida and Misana. At least 100 BLRT employees have been deployed on the project.

Meanwhile, Danish offshore supply vessel (OSV) Notus was equipped with a new crane. The work was undertaken with oversight and assistance from Tschudi Ship Management’s technical superintendent Roman Andreiev.

“Having worked both at shipyards and in ship management, Roman knows the critical steps behind every drydocking and repair project to keep vessels on schedule, within budget, and in top shape,” said a statement by Tschudi Ship Management.

“It has been our true pleasure to support this technically demanding crane installation project aboard Notus - fantastic cooperation between all parties involved,” said BLRT.
