The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has approved an expansion of the concession area held by Tenerife Shipyards at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to allow the installation of a floating dock and associated operational facilities.
The decision, approved during a board meeting chaired by port authority president Carlos González, will increase the company’s concession area by 27,448m² in the East Dock. Tenerife Shipyards currently operates a shiprepair centre on a 12,048m² site granted under a concession awarded in 2015.
Of the additional area, 23,558.74m² covers water surface, while 3,859.79m² consists of land space across two alignments. The modification request was first submitted in 2019 and required public consultation, environmental assessment and operational reviews by port authorities, the Maritime Captaincy and the local pilot organisation.
González said the agreement would “enable the arrival of a floating dock at the capital's port, whose activity could be a boost for ship repair in our port.”
The port authority said reactivating shiprepair activity had been one of its strategic priorities and added that similar development was expected at the port of Granadilla.
During the same meeting, the board awarded sanitation works contracts worth EUR 1.68 million for the Anaga Dock and Link Dock areas of the port.
