Gdynia-based SIEM Shipmanagement is to retrofit three of its managed pure car carriers (PCC) with French-based BIO-UV Group’s innovative BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system (BWTS).

The vessels are the two 3,205 CEU capacity sister ships Siem Copernicus and Siem Curie, built in 2009 and 2010, respectively, and the 4,900 CEU capacity, 2010-built Siem Socrates.

The PCC trio will be fitted with the B502 BIO-SEA BWTS units with a medium to high flow rate of 300m3/hr. BIO-Sea B-Series offers ship operators the ideal balance between cost, performance and reliability, with cost-effective, simple service and maintenance.

The UV chemical-free BWTS is approved by IMO and the USCG. Benefits include zero by-product, zero active substances and zero induced corrosion in pipes and ballast tanks.

The shipyard that will carry out the retrofitting of the BWTS has not yet been revealed, nor the timescale of the work.
