Danish contractor Semco Maritime and Spanish shipbuilding and shiprepair group Zamakona Yards have launched the Las Palmas Shipyard, aimed at rig and special-vessel upgrades, maintenance, and repair. The partners said operations had already started at the new facility.
“Las Palmas Shipyard is located at the very heart of the Atlantic and brings together more than 50 years of experience in the energy and marine industries,” said Nikolaj Vejlgaard, senior vice president of Rig and Marine at Semco Maritime. “We are aligning Semco Maritime’s expertise in complex project integration and execution with Zamakona’s long-standing marine heritage and yard capabilities to form a unique alliance that offers world-class solutions delivered directly at the quayside.”
The shipyard is positioned to serve Atlantic, West African, and European offshore operations. Its deepwater quaysides can accommodate the largest rigs and offshore vessels, reaching depths of up to 22m. Facilities include more than 650m of continuous quay with shore power, 15,000m2 of outdoor storage, and 4,000m2 of indoor workshops and offices.
The site features an offshore workshop with heavy-lifting capacity, including two 50-tonne overhead cranes and three 5-tonne cranes with 11m hook height. It will provide electrical, automation, and safety system upgrades, as well as logistics and supply chain coordination, supporting complex rig upgrades, vessel modernisations, and large-scale offshore modification projects.
