Schottel has expanded its global network with the establishment of Schottel India Sales and Service Private Limited, a new subsidiary based in Pune aimed at strengthening its presence in India’s growing maritime market.
The German propulsion specialist said the new entity will focus on newbuild and retrofit sales as well as after-sales service, with the objective of improving responsiveness and lifecycle support for customers across naval and commercial sectors.
Schottel said India represents a strategic growth market supported by ongoing investment in shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure. “The establishment of Schottel India marks an important milestone in strengthening our presence in a strategically important market,” says Roland Schwandt, Schottel CEO. “By expanding our local footprint, we are increasing proximity to our customers, providing even faster and more tailored support, and reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in shaping the future of India’s maritime sector.”
Naresh Kumar Gathania has been appointed managing director of Schottel India, bringing more than two decades of experience across maritime, defence, aerospace and heavy engineering sectors, including previous senior roles in marine engines sales and aftermarket services. He also served for ten years in the Indian Navy, where he gained technical and operational marine engineering experience.
“At Schottel India, we are committed to building strong local capabilities while leveraging global expertise,” says Naresh Kumar Gathania. “Our focus will be on delivering innovative and reliable solutions to our customers in India, with a strategic focus on both naval and commercial marine segments.”
The company said the Pune location provides access to skilled engineering talent and proximity to key shipbuilding regions and marine OEMs, supporting its long-term regional growth strategy.
