Reefer CS Care completes survey and coating upgrade at Turku

A bold recoat will add years of fouling protection for CS Care (Source: BLRT)

The refrigerated cargo vessel CS Care, operated by Cool Carriers, has completed an intermediate survey at Turku Repair Yard, part of BLRT Grupp. The work included the application of a silicone hull coating supplied by Hempel Marine.

The coating’s smooth finish is intended to help limit the spread of invasive marine species by making it more difficult for organisms to adhere to the hull.

The survey and coating project was carried out to prepare the vessel for continued global operations in the specialist reefer trade. The silicone coating is designed to reduce hull friction, thereby improving fuel efficiency and lowering operational emissions.

Cool Carriers, based in Sweden, operates the world’s largest fleet of specialised reefer vessels, carrying temperature-controlled cargo such as fruit and frozen goods. CS Care’s maintenance period at Turku forms part of scheduled upkeep to meet classification requirements while enhancing performance.

Following completion of works, CS Care has returned to service. BLRT Grupp operates repair and maintenance facilities across Finland, Estonia and Lithuania, serving a variety of vessel types.

Turku Repair Yard provides a range of services to commercial vessels, including drydocking, steelwork, blasting and painting, mechanical repairs, and underwater inspections.
