New repair and retrofit yard launched in China

A new 1,000-acre ship repair and retrofit yard with an annual ship repair capacity of 120 ships has been jointly launched in Qidong by Jiangsu Watts Energy Engineering Co., Ltd. (WE) and Shanghai COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The yard, which was formally unveiled on August 7th, 2024, is equipped with a 1,000-tonnes gantry crane and can process steel structures up to 150,000 tonnes.
The yard (located to the north of Shanghai) is expected to offer services including dock repair, conversion works, ballast water treatment system installations, etc. and has been set up to handle the repair and conversion of complex vessels such as liquefied natural gas tankers as well as bulk carriers, general cargo ships, and others. The joint project is expected to be popular given the strong reputation of the partners involved.
