MSC Cruises has begun a major refurbishment of the Liberia-flagged MSC Magnifica at Palumbo Malta Shipyard, the first of two Musica-class vessels to undergo extensive modernisation under the company’s largest refit programme in a decade.
The work will add the MSC Yacht Club with 63 suites, two specialty restaurants – Butcher’s Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar – and a redesigned Aurea Spa and Technogym Fitness Centre. New facilities will include a Gentleman’s Barber, workout studios and an expanded outdoor relaxation area.
Following completion, MSC Magnifica will re-enter service in summer 2026 on Northern Europe itineraries from Warnemünde, Germany, before returning to Mediterranean routes later in the year. The ship will also feature the Yacht Club during its 2027 World Cruise covering 45 destinations in 25 countries.
Sister ship MSC Poesia is scheduled to enter the same yard in February 2026 for a similar refit, adding a 69-suite Yacht Club, All-Stars Sports Bar and upgraded spa and fitness areas. Its renovation is due for completion ahead of its Alaska debut in May 2026.
MSC Cruises’ technical department is overseeing the programme, which underscores Palumbo Malta Shipyard’s growing role in supporting the line’s European maintenance and refit operations.
