German Ship Repair Jamaica (GSRJ) has docked five vessels simultaneously, a milestone since the opening of the shipyard in the end of 2023.
Currently in drydock is HF Hunter, an Antigua-flagged firefighting vessel operated by HF Offshore, which travelled from Namibia to dock at the shipyard.
According to AIS data, the other vessels docked at the shipyard are Singapore-flagged Epic Sicily, an LPG tanker; Portuguese-flagged chemical tanker Prairie Tulip; Norwegian-flagged general cargo vessel Oslo Bulk 3; and Mexican-flagged supply vessel Saturno.
GSRJ is part of an ambitious project to create new ship repair capacity in Jamaica, creating a pool of local ship repair talent. The yard, which initially employed 45 expatriates to train Jamaican workers, had whittled this number down to just 13 a month ago; meanwhile, some 100 workers now head to the yard each day.
“Managing multiple projects at once takes careful planning, coordination, and a skilled team that gets the job done,” said Kim Clarke, director of GSRJ. “Ship repair is critical to keeping vessels in service and trade moving. We take pride in providing reliable, high-quality solutions and appreciate the trust our clients place in us.”
