Metalock Brasil has completed a cold structural repair on the auxiliary engine No. 4 block of a Liberia-flagged merchant vessel at the Port of Kingston, Jamaica. The company said the intervention reinforced its expertise in technical projects for marine engines in operation.
The damaged area, measuring approximately 300×250mm with a thickness of 20mm on cylinder No. 2, was compromising structural integrity. The yard carried out the repair directly on board, avoiding a full block replacement and reducing vessel downtime.
Work included removal of the fractured section, surface adjustment, and installation of a custom-made insert to restore the affected region. The insert was secured using the Metalock cold repair process with Metalock keys and studs, ensuring structural strength without heat. Surface finishing followed to level the repaired area, with new drilling and thread machining allowing reinstallation of the engine cover and side plug. Alignment referenced intact surfaces, strictly following technical procedures.
The vessel’s onboard technical team inspected and approved the repair, releasing the auxiliary engine for operation. A Metalock Brasil spokesperson said the work demonstrated the company’s capabilities in precision structural repairs, component restoration, and in-situ engineering solutions that minimise downtime while maintaining operational reliability.
