MacGregor wins offshore load handling upgrade contracts

MacGregor has won a series of offshore load handling modernisation and upgrade contracts during the last six months, strengthening its position in the offshore services market and expanding its workload for existing assets.

The projects focus on extending the operational life of offshore equipment through engineering support, system upgrades and modernisation work aimed at improving performance, reliability and compliance. The contracts were booked in the company’s first- and second-quarter 2026 order intake.

A notable element of the recent awards involves the complete replacement of crane control systems. MacGregor will remove obsolete components and install updated technology based on systems currently used on its latest newbuild cranes. The work also includes fitting new operator cabins equipped with updated human-machine interface (HMI) technology and additional operational features.

The company said experience gained from similar projects contributed to repeat business from vessel owners seeking to upgrade existing assets rather than replace them. The upgrades are intended to help operators improve asset utilisation and adapt equipment for changing market requirements.

MacGregor said its modernisation work combines expertise across a range of technical disciplines with operational knowledge of offshore equipment in service. The initiative will help owners reconfigure existing cranes for the latest contracts, the company said.
