Dubai-based Gama Ship Repair is preparing to undock the Panama-flagged livestock carrier Barakat after a comprehensive repair project. The programme included full hydroblasting of the hull and deck, followed by a four-coat paint system comprising a surface-tolerant primer, high-build epoxy, intermediate coat and antifouling topcoat. The yard said the system is designed to improve corrosion protection and hydrodynamic performance.

About 50 tonnes of steel renewal were carried out on the hull, decks and structural members following ultrasonic gauging. Valve overhauls and pipe repairs across deck and engine room were completed, with calibration and testing before reinstatement.

Class and statutory surveys included gauging, hull and piping inspections, sea-chest work, propeller and tail-shaft checks, hatch tests and anode renewal. Additional drydock work covered anchor and chain calibration, outfitting repairs and mechanical fabrication.

The yard noted that the project was completed to a tight schedule through coordinated work by production teams and crew.
