Jotun has introduced Hardtop XP II, the next generation of its global topcoat bestseller. The product builds on the legacy of Hardtop XP, which has sold over 300 million litres since its launch in 2006, and is aimed at improving durability, efficiency, and aesthetic performance for steel structures across shipping, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

Hardtop XP II offers faster curing times and doubled initial hardness, reducing surface damage during handling and limiting downtime. It provides enhanced protection against UV radiation, chemical exposure, water ingress, and physical impact, while maintaining colour and gloss retention and resisting dirt accumulation. Jotun said these properties help lower maintenance costs and extend operational life.

The product has been tested across a range of climates and application conditions, with feedback confirming consistent performance worldwide. Jotun highlighted that improved steel protection contributes to reducing the environmental impact of corrosion, which costs the global economy over USD 2.5 trillion annually. Extended steel lifespan also reduces the need for replacement and associated CO₂ emissions.

Dmitry Arzhanov, Global Category Manager for Topcoats, said Hardtop XP II delivers “consistent performance regardless of environmental conditions or application methods.” The product is now available globally for commercial and industrial applications in shipping, infrastructure, and energy.
