Hydrex performs underwater propeller blade replacement

Hydrex divers have conducted an underwater propeller blade replacement alongside in Amsterdam, to address a problem with a faulty seal causing an oil leak.
The team used chain blocks to remove the first blade, which necessitated underwater cutting of the bolts. The damaged blade seal was replaced, and the replacement blade lowered into place and installed with new bolts. Hydrex conducted testing to ensure the integrity of the new seal.
The ready availability of personnel and equipment within a short distance of Hydrex’s Antwerp headquarters made it possible for the ship’s propeller to be fixed within the duration of its scheduled port call, without causing further delay.
Hydrex divers have become extremely busy in recent years as the company becomes the go-to for underwater repairs. As well as propeller blade and seal replacement, Hydrex straightens bent blades, crops, polishes and cleans them. Recently, some five underwater seal replacements took place in one month, using the company’s flexible ‘mobdock’ to allow divers to work in the dry, whether alongside in port, or at anchorage.
