Hydrex has completed a class-approved permanent hull repair on a supply vessel in Rotterdam without requiring drydocking, allowing the ship to remain in service and avoid extended offhire time.
The repair involved damage inside a starboard bilge holding tank. Hydrex mobilised a repair team to the vessel and carried out the work in coordination with the owner’s representatives and the attending classification society surveyor. To gain safe access to the affected section, technicians installed an external cofferdam before removing damaged sandwich plate material between frames 17 and 21.
After exposing the structure, diver-technicians carried out a detailed inspection of the internal steelwork. Hydrex said the findings were reviewed on board with the vessel representatives and classification surveyor, who then approved installation of a permanent insert plate.
The company installed and welded a 200-mm round steel insert plate in line with class requirements and its internal quality procedures. Hydrex said all welding work was completed under controlled conditions to ensure long-term structural integrity.
The repair was completed within the planned schedule and without requiring additional yard facilities. Hydrex said carrying out the work while the vessel remained in port enabled the owner to avoid the operational disruption and cost associated with an unscheduled drydock visit, while maintaining full class compliance throughout the repair process.
