Hybrid RoRo Trans Hav returns to service after Klaipeda yard refit

The ice-class RoRo vessel Trans Hav has resumed operations following a major conversion and yard stay in Klaipeda, marking a key milestone in owner Sea-Cargo AS’s hybrid retrofit programme.
Once freshly refurbished, Trans Hav returned to Husøy to receive cargo from sister vessel Trans Sol, which is next in line for an upgrade. With the transfer completed, Trans Hav has departed for Sunndalsøra, and is now back in service and operating on a more sustainable footing.
The vessel’s retrofit, carried out by BLRT in Estonia, includes installation of a new solar weather deck, rotor sail foundations, NOx scrubbers and high-efficiency Kongsberg propeller blades. Around 1600m² of solar panels and Norsepower rotor sails are being fitted to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50%. Batteries were also installed to enable hybrid operations.
Sea-Cargo acquired Trans Hav and Trans Sol – formerly Misida and Misana – for this transformation into wind-solar battery-hybrid vessels. At least 100 BLRT employees have been involved in the project.
Trans Sol arrived in Klaipeda for its own upgrade on July 23, mirroring the work completed on Trans Hav as Sea-Cargo pushes forward with its low-emission shipping strategy.
