GSRJ Shipyard has completed a full maintenance and overhaul project on the 144m-long container vessel Seaboard Ocean, managed by Germany’s Hartmann Group. The work took place at the company’s yard in Kingston, Jamaica, and included docking, blasting and painting, valve overhauls, rudder and tail shaft clearance checks, and anchor chain calibration.

GSRJ said the successful project reflects growing repair capacity in the region, despite challenges in the Caribbean ship maintenance sector.

“Our team stands prepared to tackle ship repair challenges with precision and care, helping vessels get back in service to continue delivering cargo efficiently and reliably,” said managing director Kim Clarke in a LinkedIn post.

GSRJ has continued to position its Kingston facility as a regional hub for ship maintenance and drydocking. The yard is targeting a mix of regional traffic and international operators seeking dependable service without the need to route vessels through North American or European yards.

The shipyard is seeing renewed interest as shipowners aim to reduce transit times and emissions related to routine maintenance. GSRJ noted that more projects of similar scale are in the pipeline for 2025.

The Seaboard Ocean is now back in service following completion of the works.
