Drydocks World has joined four international shipyards to launch the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA), a new coalition aimed at accelerating sustainability in the maritime sector.
The alliance brings together shipyards from the UAE, Spain, Germany, Singapore, China, and Thailand. Alongside Drydocks World, founding members include Astilleros Shipyard Group, BREDO Dry Docks GmbH, SEFINE Denizcilik, and IMC Shipyard Services Group. The group intends to standardise ESG benchmarks and scale adoption of clean technologies across global shipyard operations.
The move comes as the maritime industry faces mounting pressure to cut emissions and meet international climate targets. The GGSA plans to focus on practical strategies such as hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient retrofits, and digital tools for emissions compliance.
The alliance will act as a platform for shared research, innovation, and best practices, aiming to deliver commercially viable, low-carbon technologies faster.
GGSA is the third such coalition involving DP World, following the Zero Emission Port Alliance and the First Movers Coalition, both aimed at accelerating clean technology adoption in the broader logistics and shipping sectors.
The initiative is positioned as a step toward unifying industry efforts to meet sustainability demands and regulatory pressures.
"The formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry's decarbonisation journey,” said Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World. “The alliance marks a significant step forward for our industry, reinforcing our commitment to delivering long-term environmental value by adopting cleaner technologies and collective innovation."
