GIT Coatings has opened its new global headquarters and manufacturing facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, supported by an additional CAD 5 million in funding from Export Development Canada. The graphene-based coatings company says the carbon-neutral building is ten times larger than its previous site and will allow it to expand production, research and customer support as demand grows internationally.

The facility, located on Wilkinson Avenue, was inaugurated in front of more than 100 attendees, including Canadian federal and provincial representatives. The expansion is part of GIT’s strategy to scale its biocide-free hull coatings, which it claims are now applied to more than 500 vessels across over 20 countries. The company says its products help shipowners reduce fuel burn, eliminate copper leaching and lower lifecycle emissions, preventing an estimated 250,000 tonnes of CO2 and copper pollution.

“Today is a proud milestone for our entire team and for Canada’s ocean and clean-tech communities,” said Mo AlGermozi, chief executive of GIT Coatings. “This world-class site lets us manufacture at scale, accelerate R&D, and serve customers in every major shipping market.

“With 95% of our revenue coming from exports, we’re proving that Canadian clean technology can compete globally while creating high-quality jobs at home.”
