In a move to increase its attractiveness to the smaller vessel repair market, German ship repairer Bredo Dry Docks has welcomed a new 3,500-ton lifting capacity floating dock to its yard in the Fischereihafen area of the port of Bremerhaven.

Bredo also operates a repair yard in Bremerhaven’s Kaiserhafen. As well as a repair yard in Cuxhaven, on the river Elbe.

The new floating dock has been bought from Norwegian shipyard Aas Mek Verksted, in Vestnes, and was towed to Bremerhaven by the tug Fairplay 37, arriving in the port on May 16th.

The 104m long floating dock is currently sitting in Bredo’s No.4 drydock in the Fischereihafen, being readied for service. The former Norwegian floating dock will replace a similar size drydock at Bredo, albeit with a smaller width, which has become surplus to requirements due to its age.

Bredo will soon be back to a four-dock operation in Bremerhaven’s Fischereihafen when the new 3,500-ton lifting capacity floating dock is fully operational. This dock will join Bredo's three other floating docks at this facility, with lifting capacities of 3,800 tons, 7,500 tons and 12,000 tons.

In Bremerhaven’s Kaiserhafen, Bredo operates two floating docks with lifting capacities of 7,200 tons and 20,000 tons.

Meanwhile, in the port of Cuxhaven’s Amerikahafen, Bredo operates two floating docks with lifting capacities of 1,000 tons and 7,000 tons respectively.
