ASRY and Fincantieri have signed an industrial cooperation agreement intended to expand their work in shipbuilding and repair across Bahrain and the wider Gulf. The deal was concluded during the 46th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in the presence of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. ASRY’s chief executive, Dr Ahmed Al Abri, and Eugenio Santagata, general manager of Fincantieri’s naval vessels division, signed on behalf of their organisations.
Both companies will study prospects for designing and building naval surface vessels of up to 80m for Bahrain’s navy and coast guard. They will also examine the potential for comparable offshore units and possible export programmes within the Gulf. The agreement extends to maintenance, repair and overhaul work for naval, commercial and offshore ships, along with exchanges of design expertise and production-process optimisation.
Pierroberto Folgiero, chief executive and managing director of Fincantieri, said: “This agreement strengthens our strategic position in the Gulf and confirms Fincantieri’s desire to develop long-term industrial partnerships with leading partners such as ASRY. By combining complementary skills and converging visions, we are laying the foundations for a solid and structured presence in the Bahraini shipbuilding market, in line with the objectives of our integrated export platform in the Middle East.”
ASRY has also agreed a partnership with the Italian firm Roboze to establish Bahrain’s first industrial site for advanced additive manufacturing, to be built within ASRY’s yard.
