Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has selected South Korea’s Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai, to retrofit two of its vessels with the latest autonomous navigation systems, marking Avikus’ first commercial retrofit project outside its domestic market.
The deal will see Avikus install its HiNAS Control, Smart Voyage Management (SVM), and HiNAS Cloud systems on a bulk carrier and a Suezmax tanker operated by EPS. The full scope includes hardware and software installation, commissioning, and a comprehensive training package for crew, both on board and online.
The HiNAS Control system leverages AI and real-time sensor data to support autonomous navigation, delivering fuel efficiency through optimised routing and enhanced vessel handling in dynamic sea conditions. The accompanying HiNAS Cloud platform enables detailed voyage analytics from shore, aiding operational decision-making and emissions monitoring.
“This agreement validates the strength of our autonomous technology and its ability to deliver tangible fuel savings and safety improvements,” said Dohyeong Lim, CEO of Avikus. “We are excited to expand our international retrofit footprint through this milestone collaboration.”
Avikus has already equipped over 350 vessels with its smart navigation systems, and the EPS contract signals rising global demand for autonomous tech as shipping faces intensifying environmental and safety regulations.
