Destined for heavy-lift applications in the offshore oil and gas industry as well as offshore wind, the crane is set to be the largest in the Middle East. With 5,000 tonnes of lifting capacity and the ability to hoist modules 120m above sea level, the crane will be used to install FPSO topside modules, as well as high voltage (HVDC) converter stations for offshore wind farms.
“As offshore vessels continue to grow in size, the need for advanced lifting solutions with features like angled booms has become increasingly important,” said DDW CEO Captain Rado Antolovic. “This new sheerleg crane, with its ability to handle heavier modules and expedite project timelines, enables us to manage more extensive and complex projects.”
The barge features accommodation for 50 crew members, which DDW says will allow for operations “both nearshore and offshore”. Design, construction, testing, and commissioning of the new crane is slated for completion during the second quarter of 2026.
