Cyclus Marine and Lloyd’s Register sign ship recycling MoU

Demand for responsible ship recycling services is increasing, said Cyclus (Source: Wilhelmsen Ship Management)

Cyclus Marine and Lloyd’s Register have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a more structured approach to responsible ship recycling as demand for end-of-life vessel services rises.
The agreement follows the launch of Cyclus Marine, the lifecycle services business established within Wilhelmsen Ship Management, and sets out cooperation on ship recycling standards, yard assessments, workforce training and industry promotion. The companies said they would work on a framework to assess recycling facilities against recognised standards, carry out yard audits, strengthen workforce competence and promote higher standards across the recycling sector.
Cyclus Marine said the agreement was intended to help owners make more informed end-of-life decisions while improving safety and environmental performance at recycling yards. The company said rising regulatory pressure, ageing fleets and tighter sustainability requirements were increasing demand for credible ship recycling services, but inconsistent standards and safety concerns remained obstacles.
Gabriel Yeo, general manager, Cyclus Marine, said: “By combining Cyclus Marine’s project execution and lifecycle management expertise with Lloyd’s Register’s technical authority and assurance capabilities, the collaboration aims to support safer, more transparent, and more responsible recycling outcomes at scale.”
Nick Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Lloyd’s Register, said the agreement reflected a shared commitment to higher standards in ship recycling and would support owners with technically grounded oversight. Cyclus Marine said the MoU would provide a platform for further cooperation with owners, yards and other stakeholders.
