Cavotec wins further shore power retrofit contract for container fleet

Cavotec has secured an order worth EUR 7 million to retrofit additional container vessels with shorepower systems, extending an ongoing programme for a major container shipping operator and reflecting growing demand for ship electrification technologies. The contract covers the retrofit of both low-voltage and medium-voltage container ships, enabling the vessels to connect to shoreside electrical supplies while alongside and reduce the use of ships’ auxiliary engines during port stays.

According to Cavotec, the latest agreement brings the number of vessels selected for shore power installation to 24 across 2025 and 2026. Deliveries under the new contract are scheduled to take place during the remainder of 2026. The company said the retrofit work will be carried out while the vessels remain in service, allowing operators to maintain normal trading schedules and minimise disruption to operations.

Shore power systems allow ships to draw electricity directly from the local grid when berthed, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, noise and air pollution in and around ports. Demand for such systems has increased as shipowners seek to comply with tightening environmental regulations and prepare for more rigorous power requirements at major ports.

The contract adds to Cavotec's portfolio of retrofit projects aimed at helping operators modernise existing fleets and support lower-emission port operations.
