Cavotec in EUR 4 million deal for containerised shore power retrofits

Cavotec has agreed to supply a major shipping line with PowerFit containerised shore power systems, beginning this year, in a contract agreement worth EUR 4 million (USD 4.18 million).

The deal follows a run of successful business for Cavotec after an agreement with a ‘major European shipowner’ for conventional PowerAMPReel shore power equipment signed by Cavotec in February last year, worth USD 5.7 million – as well two agreements with ports in the Mediterranean, and EUR 7 million in orders, received at the end of 2024, to equip three Italian ports with quayside shore power connection systems.

Designed to allow for more straightforward retrofit, the containerised shore power system can be hoisted onto the deck of a ship by crane and wired in to the vessel’s systems from there – including while underway, the Swiss company said, incurring no off-hire time.

“This order reflects the increasing demand for our shore power retrofit solutions and underscores Cavotec’s ability to deliver advanced systems tailored to the evolving needs of the shipping industry,” said Cavotec CEO David Pagels. “We are proud to support our customer’s sustainability initiatives and contribute to the decarbonisation of maritime operations.”

Shore power retrofits are expected to grow for vessels doing business in the European Union, with FuelEU Maritime, entering force this year, mandating the use of on-shore power supply (OPS) within the next five years.
