CalMac has returned the United Kingdom-flagged ferry Glen Sannox to service on the Troon-Arran route following disruption across its fleet. The operator said the vessel would complete return sailings after cancellations affecting other services.
The move follows the withdrawal of a series of vessels due to technical faults and planned maintenance. CalMac reported that almost a third of its fleet is currently unavailable.
Duncan Mackison, chief executive officer, said, “Almost a third of our entire fleet is unavailable for service, creating a set of circumstances where significant disruption on multiple routes served by major and small vessels is unavoidable.” He added that emerging issues had worsened an already difficult situation.
Recent disruptions include the removal of the ferry Lord of the Isles from service after an engine problem. A total of five major vessels and four smaller units are out of operation.
The operator said it is working to maintain services where possible, although widespread disruption continues to affect routes across Scotland’s west coast network.
