Bureau Veritas extends approvals for Anemoi Rotor Sail designs

Anemoi Marine Technologies has secured additional design assessment certificates from Bureau Veritas for several variants of its Rotor Sail wind-assisted propulsion technology, expanding the range of independently approved systems available for both retrofit and newbuild projects.

The latest approvals cover the company's fixed and rail-deployed 3.5m x 24.5m Rotor Sails, including Ex-rated models and shorter variants designed for vessels operating with air draft restrictions. Applications are also progressing for approvals covering fixed and folding 5m x 35m Rotor Sails.

The certifications mean Anemoi's Rotor Sail portfolio is now covered by approvals from Bureau Veritas, Lloyd's Register, DNV and ClassNK. Classification approvals confirm that equipment can be manufactured, installed and operated in accordance with recognised industry standards, helping to reduce project-specific assurance requirements and streamline deployment.

The company said the approvals would help lower barriers to adoption by giving shipowners and operators greater confidence in the technology and reducing implementation risk. Rotor Sails are already operating aboard vessels classed by a number of classification societies, providing operational experience across a range of ship types and trading patterns.

Wind-assisted propulsion technologies continue to gain traction as shipowners seek fuel savings and emissions reductions through retrofit measures. Independent approval from major classification societies is increasingly viewed as an important step in accelerating deployment and simplifying project approval processes for vessel operators.
