BLRT Repair Yards in Turku, Finland, has completed a significant maintenance overhaul on 249m Aframax tanker Orange Stars, operated by International Andromeda Shipping, leaving the vessel fully prepared for its next long-haul voyage.
During its time in Finland, the Orange Stars underwent a range of maintenance tasks at Turku Repair Yard, including high-pressure water washing, hydro blasting, and painting over 20,000m2 of surfaces. Key systems were upgraded with pipe renewals, valve overhauls, and a propeller shaft withdrawal to enhance sailing efficiency.
Aframax tankers, known for their versatility, typically have a deadweight tonnage (dwt) between 80,000 and 120,000 tons, making them ideal for navigating regions where larger vessels cannot pass due to port or canal restrictions. The Orange Stars, classified as a Long Range 2 (LR2) tanker, falls within the 85,000 to 160,000-ton dwt range, providing flexibility for both crude oil and refined product transport across global trade routes.
With these vital repairs and upgrades completed, the Orange Stars is now ready to continue its important role in the global oil transportation network.
