BLRT Repair Yards Klaipėda has applied XGIT-FORCE hull coating during a ferry maintenance project nearing completion, marking one of the first known uses of the system worldwide. The yard said the work represents a step in adopting next-generation coating technologies in shiprepair.
The application formed part of a scheduled maintenance stay, with the coating developed by GIT Coatings to support proactive hull maintenance, durability, and operational efficiency. The yard reported that such technologies are gaining relevance as shipowners focus on fuel efficiency and lifecycle performance.
A BLRT spokesperson said the project demonstrated the yard’s capability to implement advanced coating systems in operational conditions. The company added that its technical expertise and infrastructure allow new coating technologies to deliver value in practice.
The Klaipėda facility continues to expand its role in applying modern coating solutions, supporting vessel performance improvements and maintenance planning. The project highlights a broader shift in shiprepair towards coatings designed to reduce resistance, improve efficiency, and extend maintenance intervals.
