Berg Propulsion has signed a formal service and support agreement with Scotland’s Stone Marine Services (SMS), expanding its regional footprint across the UK and Ireland as demand grows for hybrid-electric and electric propulsion systems.
The non-exclusive agreement builds on a long-standing collaboration between the two companies and is intended to strengthen service capability for propulsion system retrofits, repairs and maintenance in key ferry and fishing vessel markets.
Berg Propulsion said the arrangement reinforces its ability to provide closer-to-market support, with managing director Jörgen Karlsson saying local service capacity was increasingly important for responsiveness and customer expectations. He said the partnership would help the company grow its market share across additional vessel types in the region.
Under the agreement, SMS will provide propulsion system support while also acting as a subcontractor for Berg in other regions where required. Berg is currently providing additional training for SMS engineers to cover both new and legacy propulsion systems, with full operational rollout expected by autumn.
SMS, based in Scotland, has experience in propeller, thruster, steering gear and deck machinery servicing, including spare parts supply and drydock support. Managing Director Ryan McIntyre said the partnership would enhance its ability to deliver OEM-backed support to customers across the UK and Ireland.
“Stone Marine Services has consistently shown itself as well-matched to the way Berg works as a team, taking the same approach to quality control, service excellence and documentation,” explained Jörgen Karlsson, GM for Sales & Service, Europe and Americas at Berg. “This agreement strengthens our local presence and supports our robust service capability worldwide. Strong service teams close to market deliver the flexibility and timely response customers of Berg Propulsion have come to expect. We aim to grow by share and by vessel type in these markets.”
