Baltic Queen in drydock in freezing conditions

Frozen over – but still, work goes ahead (Source: Tallink)
The Estonia-flagged ferry Baltic Queen is in drydock at Turku Repair Yard in Naantali, Finland, where maintenance is proceeding despite winter temperatures ranging between –10 and –20 °C. Captain Roland Lemendik notes that the cold presents challenges but that the experienced shipyard team continues work inside and outside the vessel.
A major task is renewing the ferry’s hull coating designed to reduce water resistance and lower fuel consumption. The project also includes refurbishment of the sauna and spa area and the replacement of carpets in several cabins.
The drydock visit aligns with planned preventive maintenance while Baltic Queen is out of service. Yard staff are carrying out a range of other upkeep tasks to ensure the vessel’s readiness for service. The ferry is expected to depart drydock and return to operation on February 13th, scheduled to embark passengers from Tallinn on a Valentine’s Day cruise to Stockholm. Work through the cold spell illustrates the yard’s capacity to maintain schedules even in harsh winter conditions.
