Asyad Drydock is celebrating its 2,200th drydocking milestone, with Chief Executive Ahmed bin Ali Al Bulushi saying the achievement reflects the yard’s growing position within global shiprepair and conversion markets. He said the yard had delivered consistent growth since inception through investment in operational capability, infrastructure and workforce development.
"Our competitive advantage is anchored in our strategic positioning on the Arabian Sea, which places us directly on critical Asia-Europe and Asia-Africa maritime corridors,” he said. “This geographic advantage enables vessel operators to optimise voyage efficiency – eliminating costly deviations into the Arabian Gulf and preserving valuable sailing days."
Al Bulushi said integration within the wider Asyad Group had strengthened the yard’s performance, particularly through logistics support and supply chain efficiency. Ongoing investment at the Port of Duqm is helping to build an industrial ecosystem of suppliers and OEM facilities, supported by the Special Economic Free Zone.
“Despite our recent market entry, Asyad Drydock operates world-class facilities that rival established global shipyards," he said. "Our 1.2million-m² complex features two graving docks – capable of accommodating vessels up to 500,000 dwt and 600,000 dwt respectively – complemented by state-of-the-art steel fabrication, engineering, coating, and blasting capabilities.”
He highlighted upgrades including an additional floating drydock, ABS certification for large-vessel propeller blade repairs, robotic hull-cleaning systems and advanced coating technologies, alongside expansion into shipbuilding, including a tug construction project for Oman LNG in partnership with Svitzer.
