Astra Nord Shipyard launches in Germany to build 65–295m superyachts

Astra Nord, a new shipyard dedicated to large superyachts, has officially opened in Stralsund, Northern Germany – marking a major expansion in Europe’s high-capacity yacht construction market.

Founded by Greek designer Theodoros Fotiadis, Astra Nord occupies a 97,000-m2 site on the Baltic Sea, offering fully enclosed and heated facilities capable of building and refitting yachts with lengths ranging between 65 and 295m. The yard enters the market as one of the few European facilities able to handle vessels in this size range, filling the void left by Nobiskrug’s restructuring.

The first project in the yard is the 47m-long Sanlorenzo Ocean Dreamwalker III, which arrived for refit work, signalling Astra Nord’s readiness to compete in both the refit and newbuild sectors. The yard has also unveiled its first newbuild concept, the 78m-long Neon, developed in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects and T. Fotiadis Design. The design utilises a “free from bulkheads” engineering platform that moves all machinery below deck to create expansive, uninterrupted interior volumes.

Astra Nord’s infrastructure includes a 300m main construction hall, an 800-tonne lifting capacity crane, and a 270m ship lift. The yard places strong emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and long-term client support, offering full lifecycle services from commissioning to global maintenance and technical upgrades.

“With Astra Nord, our vision is to redefine what’s possible in yacht construction,” said Fotiadis. “We blend German precision with forward-thinking design to create superyachts for the next generation.”
