Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) has completed its 200th offshore rig project, maintenance and repair work on the Valaris 250 ( formerly Bob Palmer) – a milestone the company said underlines its growing role in offshore rig repair and maintenance services.
Built at Rowan Companies shipyard in Mississippi by LeTourneau Technologies design, the Super Gorilla XL Class jack-up Bob Palmer was later renamed Valaris 250 after its owner Rowan Companies merged with Ensco to form Valaris plc in 2019. It is one of the largest offshore rig designs in operation globally, with only a limited number in service.
The completion was marked at a ceremony attended by senior ASRY executives and representatives from Valaris. ASRY said the project involved more than 700,000 accident-free working hours, reflecting its focus on safety, quality and operational discipline across complex offshore scopes.
“Reaching the milestone of 200 projects within ASRY Offshore marks an important chapter in ASRY’s journey and reflects the expertise and trust the company has built over years of delivering complex offshore projects,” said ASRY CEO Ahmed Al Abri. “The Valaris 250 project is a strong example of our technical and operational capabilities and our ability to successfully execute major projects in accordance with the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.”

He added that the completion was made possible through coordination between ASRY teams, partners and clients, and said the company aimed to strengthen its position as a regional maritime and industrial hub through continued delivery of specialised offshore projects.
“The Valaris 250 project is one of the most significant offshore rig repair and maintenance projects undertaken by ASRY in recent years, given the size of the rig and the complexity of the scope of work,” said Taner Demirel, director of Offshore Rig Repair at ASRY. “The project required careful planning and close coordination between ASRY, Valaris, and all stakeholders to ensure its successful completion to the highest standards of quality and safety.”
