Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) has started a tanker recoating programme for Sterling Ocean Shipping that will see six 25,000-dwt chemical tankers upgraded with its MarineLINE cargo tank coating system.
Work is underway on the first vessel, the Marshall Islands-flagged Alfred N, at Yeosu Shipyard in South Korea. The remaining sister vessels, the Marshall Islands-flagged Louis P, Marie C, Willard J, Linus P, and Otto H, are scheduled to undergo recoating during 2026 as part of planned mid-life maintenance programmes.
The contract marks APC’s first agreement with Sterling Ocean Shipping, which operates a fleet of chemical and product tankers. APC said the MarineLINE system offers greater cargo flexibility, shorter tank-cleaning times and improved vessel utilisation compared with conventional coatings.
According to the company, MarineLINE has been installed on around 700 vessels worldwide and can provide a service life of seven to ten years in high-specification chemical trades, with some installations in clean petroleum product service exceeding 20 years.
Onur Yildirim, global marine manager at APC, said: “Tanker operators know that to meet the demands of the modern market, speed, flexibility and the ability to handle challenging cargo sequences are vital. That is what MarineLINE brings to their operation.”
APC said a tanker carrying methanol may require seven to ten days for tank cleaning and ventilation with premium epoxy coatings, whereas a MarineLINE-coated vessel could reduce that process to about three days, improving turnaround times and trading flexibility.
