Kongsberg Maritime, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), has secured a contract to replace the waterjet propulsion systems on 13 Kuwait Coast Guard vessels as part of a mid-life upgrade. The project will see Kongsberg Kamewa S63-4 waterjets installed across the fleet, with deliveries scheduled between the first quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.

Ten vessels will have their existing third-party systems fully replaced, while three will be retrofitted. Each shipset includes waterjets, extended Jet Control Systems and power packs. The installation work will be handled by ADSB at its facilities in Abu Dhabi. Kongsberg said the upgrade is intended to improve propulsion performance, reliability and lifecycle efficiency across the fleet as the Kuwait Coast Guard shifts from refurbishment to full system replacement.

“This project is a testament to our customer-centric service approach and technological leadership,” said Jouni Raatikainen, executive vice-president for global customer support at Kongsberg Maritime. “By working closely with both ADSB and the end customer from the outset, we were able to present a compelling solution that goes beyond equipment supply, offering long-term value, performance enhancement, and full lifecycle support.”

The contract strengthens the position of both companies in the Gulf defence sector, with ADSB pursuing further regional partnerships and newbuild programmes.
