Chinese yards had an excellent week for orders despite the approaching threat of punishing U.S. fees on Chinese-built ships calling at U.S. ports. One Chinese yard alone reported USD 440 million of orders signed including for container ships. Other Chinese business included tankers worth up to USD 600 million for Europe, while a European customer is in talks with Chinese yards about building large RoRo ferries. South Korean deals included a USD 252 million gas carrier from North America while a European customer is also set to order a gas carrier in Korea. A European yard won a cruise ship order worth over EUR 2 billion.
