Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has announced an order from Norwegian owner, Solvang, for LPG cargo handling systems for two very large gas carriers (VLGC) on order at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

The 88,000-m3 panamax VLGCs will incorporate various environmental technology systems developed by Solvang over 12 years through its ECO LPG Carrier programme.

The latest order follows a similar order placed by the Norwegian owner last year for five vessels currently being built by the shipbuilder.

Tor Øyvind Ask, fleet director at Solvang ASA, commented: “Solvang has a fleet of modern and efficient vessels, all built in accordance with the most up-to-date specifications and fitted with the latest technology. These two new additions to the fleet will feature the most efficient solutions currently available, which is why we have again opted for Wärtsilä cargo handling systems.”

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions’ sales manager, Patrick Ha, said: “We continue to enjoy excellent relationships with both Solvang and HHI, as evidenced by this repeat order. The most advanced ship designs demand the most efficient and reliable cargo handling solutions, and that is what we are able to deliver.”

The cargo handling equipment will be supplied to the shipyard from the middle of next year, and the first ship is due for delivery in mid-2027.
