Wärtsilä to provide fuel-efficient engine package for new Scottish trawler

The new trawler being built for Reseach Fishing Co will be equipped with a Wärtsilä 31 main engine, Wärtsilä propulsion machinery and auxiliary engines
Skipsteknisk-designed vessel also includes two Wärtsilä 20 auxiliaries – one eight-cylinder and one six-cylinder – a gearbox, controllable pitch propeller and Wärtsilä ProTouch propulsion control system.
"This vessel has been designed to meet our needs well into the future," said Gary Williamson, skipper and co-owner of the fishing company. "The machinery on board has to be the best available, and we believe that by selecting Wärtsilä, this requirement is achieved."
The fishing company, which has an option for a second vessel, will deploy the 79.8m-long ship on Scottish fishing grounds when it is commissioned in autumn 2018. Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled to start in November this year.
The Wärtsilä 31 engine has been recognised by Guiness World Records as the world’s most efficient four-stroke diesel engine.
