The 399,999dwt Pacific Vision, a very large ore carrier (VLOC) built by China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, has been delivered to China Merchants Energy Shipping with smart notation from DNV GL.

The classification society’s SmartShip notation has been provided on the basis that the 362m-long vessel is equipped with a smart navigation decision support system, an energy efficiency management and optimisation system, and a smart vessel operation and maintenance system.
The bulk carrier, which will operate between Brazil and China, Japan, Malaysia, Oman and possibly Rotterdam and Italy, has features including operational enhancement, performance enhancement and condition monitoring enhancement. Since its keel-laying in December 2015, DNV GL has worked closely with the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, the shipbuilder and the associated equipment manufacturers, focusing on design implementation, site survey verification and component and system verification.
The classification society’s SmartShip notation can be applied to ships provided with class products covering technological features considered to be smart technologies in marine applications in accordance with the DNV GL Class Guideline for SmartShips CG-0508.
