Viking Ocean contracts now effective, options declared

Contracts for ship numbers seven and eight in a series of cruise vessels under construction at Fincantieri for Viking Ocean Cruises are now effective and two options have been declared, taking the total number to ten ships.

Four of the 47,800gt vessels, with capacity for 930 passengers in 465 all-veranda cabins have already been delivered since the first ship, Viking Star, was commissioned in March 2015. It has since been joined by Viking Sea, Viking Sky, and Viking Sun. The remaining six, all sisters, are due for delivery in 2018, 2019, 2021, two in 2022, and 2023.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Viking has pioneered river and small ship ocean cruising. Today, it operates a fleet of 63 vessels and, with the delivery of the Fincantieri ships, will be the largest small ship ocean cruise line, the company claims.
